Sugar has been found in space! Exactly what has been found is an organic molecule made up of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. It is a simple form of sugar and it is interesting because scientists believe that this compound plays a key role in the chemical reaction that results in RNA, a biomolecule found in all living cells. So this brings us a step closer to understanding how life began on Earth as well.

The sugar, glycoaldehyde, has been found near a sun-like star 400 light years away. It was found by scientists at an observatory in Chile called the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array. Follow this link to see their press release concerning the discovery.
